Wondering how to best support a friend or family member through postpartum? My first answer will always be food (hello meal train). My second answer is a thoughtful basket dropped to their door. Here are some of my favourite postpartum gift basket ideas.

Postpartum is a significant time of change, healing and learning for the new mother.

Preparing for postpartum can play an important role in the transition, ensuring the mother is supported and nourished through this time so she can put her focus on where it is needed: bonding with her new baby.

There is something incredibly wholesome about carefully put together gift baskets.

It can feel like warm hug and important reminder that the people in your life are care about YOU (the mum!) during this time.

Let’s shower the new mum’s in our lives with the love and support they so deserve with these 28 postpartum gift basket ideas.

What is a Postpartum Gift Basket?

They say that you always remember who showed up for your postpartum and I truely do believe this.

Since becoming a mother, my love language has become ‘loving on new mums’ because I know all too well what those early days can feel like.

I was lucky enough to be showered with gifts of nourishment during both my postpartum, even without a village of support nearby.

Loved ones from afar put together postpartum gift baskets as a way of saying congratulations.

So, what is a postpartum gift basket?

Essentially, it is exactly as it sounds. It is a gift basket that is dedicated to the mum. It usually offers items of nourishment (mine had a fresh loaf of bread added in) and care items to ensure the new Mother is also being looked after.

Luxury Gift Basket Ideas for Postpartum

When it comes to Postpartum, there are a lot of gifts that aids and supports recovery for mum (they’re coming) but we wanted to share some luxe ‘you deserve this’ gifts, too.

Below are some of our favourite luxury gifts to spoil and celebrate the new mum.

  • Kip and Ko Linen Robe: This colourful linen robe is a beautiful and luxurious gift for a new mum. Made from 100% French flax linen, it is breathable and lightweight. We love the hand-drawn florals and know they would brighten anyone’s day.
  • Hommey Slippers: Hommey slippers have been on the wish list for a long time. They are unmatched and worth every penny (so we hear). Sometimes a little bit of luxury goes a long way, especially when you’re unlikely to be doing much for yourself postpartum. Our favourite is the faux-fur slides in Rose.

  • Aromatherapy Eye Pad: Give the gift of relaxation with this scented eye pad by Addition Studio. This gift needs to come with a prompt to the new Mum’s support person to hold the baby and offer mum a few moments of elevated R+R.
  • Sheet Face Mask: Once everything has settled down a little, the new mama will start to crave a bit of her care routine back. Pop in a facemask, so when the time comes, she has a little reminder to grab 15 minutes to her self.
  • Flow State: A multi-benefit supplement to support a mother postpartum. Focusing on a clear mind, more energy, a calmed nervous system and improved moods. You can read more about the benefits of flow state here
  • Bosom Ritual: Multi-award winning breast massage oil, designed to nurture mothers on their breastfeeding journey and beyond. Explained as a multi-purpose ritual, fostering a conscious connection through the artistry of botanical alchemy.
  • Bare Self Chocolate: A sweet treat for mum, that is also designed to stimulate and support lactation.
  • Nourished Postpartum Book: Known as the survival guide for postpartum, this book is full of naturopath designed recipes and other instrumental supports for the new mum.

Nourishing Postpartum Gifts

  • The Postpartum Depletion Cure Book: An important read that speaks to the nutrient depletion, sleep loss and emotional shifts we experience postpartum. Offer all the tips for a successful recovery by gifting this brilliant book.
  • Bink Mama Drink Bottle
A reusable drink bottle is the perfect gift to add to a new mums feeding station. Don’t worry if they already have one, they will need a few. It is so important to stay hydrated while feeding and a good drink bottle with a straw will provide convenience and remind mama to keep up her fluids.
  • Creamy Coconut Dahl : This nourishing comfort food is perfect for any postpartum gift. Offering a quick and easy meal for Mum full of the warming benefits of lentils, bone broth and spices.
  • Mini and Me Hydramama Ensure the new mama stays hydrated with a delicious electrolyte drink that is full of vitamins and antioxidants to support them while feeding and recovering.
  • Franjo Kitchen Lactation Cookies Franjos cookies not only provide a great breastfeeding snack but are packed full of natural galactagogues, designed to support mamas milk supply.
  • Mayde Tea is a rejuvenating caffeine-free tea blend high in antioxidants and minerals. A warming gift for any mother postpartum.
  • Foraged For you Nutrient dense powerhouse designed with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in mind. Nothing nourishes a new mama like a certified organic blend of real fermented foods (that is also EASY to consume).
  • Village for Mama with recipe gift cards to help mothers gather their village and organise homemade meal giving for their fourth trimester.

Recovery Gift Ideas for Postpartum

  • Postpartum Bath Soak : We add this gift to every postpartum basket. A beautiful Epsom salt bath soak for deep rest and relaxation (when mama is ready)
  • Silverettes :A life-saver during those early days of cluster feeding. Silverettes nursing cups assist in preventing cracked and irritated nipple skin and soothe/heal sore nipples between feeds.
  • Peri Ice Pack: Another must-have item for cooling relief to the perineum to assist with irritation, tenderness and swelling. We love this Ice Pack by Bare Mum.
  • Peri Healing Spray: Intended to gently ease and soothe any discomfort in the perineal area after childbirth. Designed to keep a new mum’s stitches clean and provide relief from stinging and swelling.

  • Toms Maternity Pads: This may not be a luxury gift but it IS a practical one. Trust me, you can never have too many maternity pads postpartum. We love the Toms Maternity Pads as they are organic, breathable, highly absorbent and comfortable.
  • Mere Nipple Cream: Created to soothe, heal and hydrate. A good (and natural) Nipple Cream will provide much-needed relief from sore and cracked nipples.
  • Peri Healing Wash Bottle: Designed to relieve the sting of urine and gently cleanse sensitive areas post-birth. A Perineal Wash bottle will effectively keep your stitches clean and assist with stinging and swelling.
  • Recovery Leggings/shorts: Designed in consultation with an obstetrician, SPC Recovery shorts provide support and pain relief after a c-section or vaginal delivery. They are designed to offer increased stability, allowing you to move around more freely.
  • Postpartum Underwear Depending on preference, we recommend having disposable postpartum underwear on your postpartum essentials list or investing in the comfort and innovation of Bare Mum’s Postpartum briefs (paired with maternity pads and ice packs).
  • Reusable Breast Pads: Leak-proof protection to mama dry and provide comfort against tender breasts. We also love the organic bamboo washable pads for Juem.

Final Thoughts On Postpartum Gift Baskets:

We promise you, the new mum in your life will appreciate this more than you will know.

Take some time to consider what special items you’ll add to your gift basket and top it off with a heartfelt note and fresh fruit from the grocers.

We encourage you to either wait until you are invited over OR do a drop and run, giving the family ample space to bond, while also ensuring they know you’re thinking about them.
